British Airways flights: BA issues ‘important’ update to travellers as major changes made

British Airways has revealed what flying with the national flag carrier will be like in the wake of coronavirus. The airline has suspended all flights from London Gatwick and London City airports for the time being and has moved all their operations to Heathrow’s Terminal 5. It has also implemented a plethora of new measures in order to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Yesterday, BA revealed the full extent of their new health and safety protocols.

“In the past few months, we’ve all been missing the people and places we love,” said British Airways.

“When the world opens up once more, we are looking forward to welcoming you back on board.

“You’ll see changes at every step of the journey when you fly with us, with new protective measures on the ground and in the air.

“Your safety remains at the heart of everything we do.”

BA is requiring all its passengers to wear face masks at all time.

They recommend using self-service check-in and self-scanning boarding passes.

Hand sanitising stations are positioned throughout the airport and next to touchpoints.

The airline is trialling a new boarding process and is encouraging fliers to observe safe distance markers at the airport and boarding gate.

Once on board, passengers are encouraged to stay in their seat if possible and minimise movement around the cabin.

Everyone will be offered a personal protection pack containing an antibacterial wipe and hand sanitiser gel.

BA have also changed their inflight food options and service to reduce physical contact with crew.

Travellers will not be able to pre-pay or pre-order meals and menus will not be handed out.

Instead, cabin crew will be explaining the options and will have allergen information available.

As for what is available, in short haul economy BA “will offer complimentary refreshments along with a bottle of water,” explained the airline.

“Please speak to a member of crew if you would like a juice or hot drink.”

In long-haul economy and premium economy, the carrier is “offering a bar service with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

“The alcoholic drinks will be served either as miniatures or individual quarter bottles.

“This will be followed by a meal service (breakfast or all-day option), offered with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

“Our cabin crew will be able to provide you with details of choices available and any allergen advice.”

Cleaning will be a high priority. Key surfaces will be sanitised before every flight, from seats to screens to seat buckles and tray tables.

In the cabin, air is completely replaced every two to three minutes, passing through HEPA filters.

These remove microscopic bacteria and virus clusters with over 99.9 percent efficiency, equivalent to hospital operating theatre standards.
